With only days left until voter registration for the May election closes, the Labour Party is urging the people of Brecon and Radnorshire not to miss out on the chance to have a say on who runs Wales.
Anybody can vote in a UK election if they are aged over 18 on polling day, are a citizen of the UK, the Commonwealth or the Irish Republic (and living here), and are not subject to any legal restriction.
But you must be registered by April 18 - next Monday! - and changes to the way voters are registered means thousands of people may have been knocked off the electoral roll without even knowing it.
It is not the case that you are automatically registered to vote if you pay Council Tax or are registered in a house where Council Tax is paid. Electoral registration is a separate process to Council Tax registration. Nor are you automatically registered if you have recently moved house.
In fact, if you haven’t made sure you’re on the register, then you probably aren’t.
You can put that right by contacting Powys County Council. You will need to visit the office and fill in a voter registration form. Also see the www.aboutmyvote.co.uk site where you can sign up online to register to vote.
Once registered, you will be able to vote in the Assembly election and the election of a new Police and Crime Commissioner for Powys on May 5.
You will also be able to vote in the EU referendum later this year.
If you aren’t on the electoral register, you can’t vote.
