Blue Badge holders frustrated with lengthy renewals could have the process speeded-up after Nick Ramsay AM pushed for rapid reform.

The Monmouth assembly member said he has received many complaints from holders unhappy with the time and effort renewing badges takes, and is pressing for Welsh Government to streamline the scheme.

“Something is clearly going badly wrong with this process. I will be writing to the minister again to ask that improvements recommended by the Blue Badge Task and Finish Group be implemented much more swiftly,” he said.

Mr Ramsay highlighted one constituent with a permanent disability forced to appeal to Independent Assessors through a lengthy and costly process before his badge was renewed.

“Despite the Welsh Government’s recommendations to reform the scheme, many elderly constituents encounter problems in renewing their… badges.

“Blue Badges play a very important role in enabling many often elderly or vulnerable people to live a full and independent life and it’s unfair that people with genuine mobility problems are continuing to have to struggle to have their badges renewed.”
