A demonstration is being planned near the Usk Bridge, Llanfoist this Friday (January 20) to coincide with the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the USA.
Starting at 2pm, it will be part of the nationwide Build Bridges Not Walls action which will see colourful banners bearing positive slogans hung from bridges across Britain.
The protest at national level has been called by a coalition of organisations, including Global Justice Now.
Locally, organisations such as Abergavenny Transition Town, Friends of the Earth, the Quakers and churches are being contacted to take part.
The organisers say photos of the protests will be collected centrally and shared nationally ‘in the hope of creating a groundswell of opposition to current politics of fear and hatred on both sides of the Atlantic’.
They are encouraging those wishing to join in to make and take along their own banners, provided the messages are ‘positive, creative and strong’.
