GWENT Police has now confirmed that a raid on an Abergavenny town centre property which was witnessed by dozens of people last Wednesday evening was part of a search for a 19 year old man wanted in connected with alleged public order offences.

One eye witness told The Chronicle she was in the town centre when a number of police cars pulled up and officers wearing body armour and carrying what she believed to be a Taser weapon got out.

"They seemed to be heading for a flat above one of the premises in Cross Street," she said.

Another witness reported being overtaken by a number of police vehicles traveling at high speed as he drove towards Abergavenny from the Cwmbran direction.

"When I got into town the cars were parked in Cross Street and there was obviously something going on," he said.

As The Chronicle went to press despite inquiries to Gwent Police, no details of the incident were forthcoming and press officers told the Chronicle that nothing had appeared on their record of incidents for last week.

At a press conference on Thursday however, it was confirmed that the raid had taken place at around 8.30pm on Wednesday on a property which was the last known address of the man concerned. He was later tracked down to an address in Clos Durand in Abergavenny.
