Gwent Police are appealing for information and asking residents to remain vigilant following two recent burglaries, one in Abergavenny and one in Mamhilad.

On Tuesday May 15, a house on Pen y Pound, Abergavenny was broken into some time between 7.45am and 6pm. Forced entry was made and a significant amount of jewellery was stolen.

On Sunday May 20 a house in Mamhilad was broken into at 5.30pm. Forced entry was made but as the intruder being disturbed nothing was stolen.

Police are investigating both incidents and ask for anyone who may have witnessed the incidents to contact them.

Residents should report any suspicious or out of the ordinary activity in their neighbourhoods.

They also issued the following advice:

• Remember to close and secure all doors and windows at night and when you go out

• Keep your front and back doors locked, even when you are at home during the day

• If you have locked your door, take the keys out of the lock and put them somewhere safe and out of reach from doors or windows

• Don't leave expensive property in sight, close to a window

• Keep your car keys safe and out of sight

• Close all curtains when you have the lights on at night

• Consider fitting a security alarm/ security lights

• Shut and lock garden gates

• Be wary of anybody calling at your home who you do not recognise. If they claim to be representing a company request sight of identification to confirm they are genuine.
