Firefighters battled a major fire in Llanfair Kilgeddin for three hours in the early hours of last Thursday.
At the height of the blaze six fire engines – from Usk, Abergavenny, New Inn and Cwmbran – were in attendance.
Gwent Police had received reports of a caravan alight at St Mary’s Close in the village at approximately 2.20am. Officers arriving at the scene found that a bungalow, where the caravan was parked, was also on fire.
Further investigation identified that a burglary had recently taken place at the address and police believe the two incidents are connected.
The couple who own the detached property, which was reduced to rubble by the fierce blaze, were away on holiday at the time but have since returned to the area.
No-one was hurt in the incident.
Inspector Huw Jones said the back door of the bungalow had been forced but it was unclear what, if anything, had been stolen from either the house or caravan before the fires took hold.
