GWENT Police is appealing for witnesses following an assault that took place at Bailey Park, Abergavenny.

The incident took place on Saturday, April 16 during a rugby match between Abergavenny RFC and Newport HSOB (High School Old Boys) RFC which resulted in a 23-year-old man from Newport sustaining a broken jaw.

A 33-year-old man from the Abergavenny area has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
