An elderly woman was knocked down by a car in Abergavenny, which then drove off, police have said.

The 80-year-old woman was crossing the road near the Cantref Inn before a grey vehicle stuck her down, and then left the scene.

Police say she was injured and required surgery, though her condition is not thought to be life threatening.

The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, October 19, around 6.30pm.

 “The vehicle involved is believed to be grey in colour however the victim was unable to provide any more details,” said a police spokesperson.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in that area at the time and who may have seen something.
