A Llanover couple are celebrating a phenomenal milestone as they commemorate their platinum wedding anniversary this month with a family celebration.

Ray and Beryl Davies tied the knot 70 years ago after a courtship that began at a youth club in Orcop Village Hall just over the border in Herefordshire.

Both Ray and Beryl came from farming backgrounds and were married at St John the Baptist Church in their home village in 1951 before starting their life together in Garway Hill, Hereford.

The couple moved to Llanover in October 1967 where Ray worked on Llanover Estate for twenty six years. He was well known for looking after the Estate’s black sheep which he exhibited at numerous country shows

While Ray’s passion remains his garden, Beryl is well known for her fruit cakes. The couple have seven children, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
