Madam, Having visited friends in Aberystwyth on a number of occasions, my attention was drawn to the comments in your newspaper regarding the ongoing problems on the railway between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth. As I travel by train from Wrexham I too have fallen victim to the poor service and have to agree with the comments made by Cllr Strong regarding a change in the operation. It does not seem logical to run a train all the way from Birmingham to Aberystwyth with constant failures to meet the scheduled times when there is a regular service between Chester and Birmingham. The obvious answer to the problem would be to run a regular service between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury timed to connect with the Birmingham service from Chester. Surely it is possible for Arriva management to improve their service routes, and should they not realise that they are supposed to be operating a "Welsh Franchise", in which case trains should be running directly between Welsh towns such as Wrexham with decent connections to locations in England rather than the organised chaos we are being subjected to at the present time. Action is required now as it will be a considerable time before the proposals by Network Rail to improve the track layout come to pass. Yours etc, Ivor Rowlands Rhosddu Road Rhosddu, Wrexham.
