GLANGRWYNEY CC second teams fixture against Strollers will be remembered for something other than the result - as it was the first time in recorded history that women played a part in proceedings on the groins home turf.

The visiting Strollers are to be congratulated for not only including two women in the team, but also ensuring they played a full part in the match.

Ground and record-breaking ladies Kath Berry and Tilly Brereton even bowled in tandem at one stage during the Glangrwyney innings.

Batting first, the home sides opening pair of Skipper Rob Richards (85) and Lewis Morgan (94), in keeping with the spirit of a day, put on a record second team opening partnership of 190 in their sides total of 229 - 2.

Stroller's bowlers toiled away with little success but stuck to their task and kept some control on the scoring.

On taking the field, the Glangrwyney bowlers soon found that it was a batsmen's paradise and suffered the same fate as Stroller's bowlers had earlier.

Strollers's opening pair of Peter Skirrow, and Mark Turner chalked up a 189 run opening partnership, and Turner then struck out to finish the game with overs in hand.

For Glangrwyney, youngsters Greg Lewis, and Mike Schofield bowled well at the start and Hadyn Davies was the most economical.

However, in a hugely eventful and memorable match, the innings was notable for veteran Bob Charlton's first bowl in a league match after nigh on 40 years in the game.

Although normally found at the other end with the gloves on, Charlton also went on to claim a wicket.
