TWO people were rescued and seven evacuated from a block of flats after an early morning fire in Brynmawr.

Fire crews were called the blaze at a second floor flat in Beaufort Street at 1.53am.

One person was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny but the extent of their injuries is not known.

Seven other residents were evacuated from the four storey building by firefighters.

Crews from Ebbw Vale, Brynmawr and Blaina attended.
