Abergavenny Thursdays - 3

Christchurch - 3

IN a Gwent County Three encounter the Thursdays should have won after leading 3-1 at the interval, they let Christchurch in through the backdoor to poach two soft goals late in the day and draw the match.

Both sides opened brightly, playing end to end football, with the Thursdays gradually getting on top.

A perfect cross from Shane Barry, powered in by Tamlin, put the Thursdays on the scoresheet 18 minutes into the game.

A classy goal by Pete Smith, assisted by Simon Bailey, doubled the Pen-y-Pound advantage, and a solid save by keeper Anthony Moriarty kept the Thursdays in it to win it.

However, a dubious decision by the ref, handed a goal on a plate to the Newport side who took it with relish.

Simon Bailey regained the Thursdays two goal advantage in the 35th minute with a strike that saw them go into half-time in a strong position.

However, all their good work was undone in the final 45 minutes as Christchurch pounced and denied the Thursdays the maximum points that were there for the taking.

Tomorrow evening at Pen-y-Pound the Abergavenny Thursdays veterans will play Albion Rovers with a 7.30pm kick-off.
