TWO men have been taken to Nevill Hall Hospital with ‘life changing’ injuries following a collision on the A449 this morning (Fridy)

A 50-year-old man from the Newport area has been arrested on suspicious of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the 6am incident which closed the dual carriageway between Raglan and Monmouth close to the Gibraltar Tunnels

The northbound carriage way has now re-opened and southbound carriageway re-opening is likely to open late this afternoon.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said, “We were called at 5.50am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision involving two HGVs on the A40 near Monmouth."

Following the crash, another two vehicles collided on the opposite side of the road and two people sustained minor injuries.

The southbound carriage remains closed for the moment with diversions in place from the Monmouth traffic lights to the Wye Valley.

Traffic officers are on the scene advising HGV lorries of alternative routes as the Wye Valley route has weight restrictions.
