A deal to bring a 70-bed care home at a new development in Llanfoist will bring up to 100 new jobs to the area.

Castleoak Care Developments has been granted planning permission to build a new two-floor specialist care home on the Westgate development at Llanfoist.

Confirming the deal, landowners Johnsey Estates said the deal adds to the development of a Premier Inn, Brewer’s Fayre restaurant and Costa Coffee drive-through already confirmed for the 12-acre site off Merthyr Road.

Details lodged with Monmouthshire County Council show a two-floor home for the elderly spanning 60 rooms equipped with balconies, alongside a gym, library, cinema, music and communal centres, and guest room. A 31-space car park is also planned.

James Crawford, CEO of Johnsey Estates, said, “We are very pleased to have concluded this latest land sale at Westgate Llanfoist to Castleoak.

The new care home, together with the Premier Inn hotel, restaurant and Costa Coffee Drive Thru will deliver much needed investment, jobs and new facilities to Abergavenny at this important location on the A465 Heads of the Valleys trunk road.”

Work is already underway on the construction of the 61-bed Premier Inn, and Brewer’s Fayre, and Costa Coffee site, with the hotel and drive-through due to open in October this year.

Castleoak bought the 1.5 acre site from Pontypool-based Johnsey Estates for an undisclosed sum.
