A BBC documentary maker is bringing a new cultural project to Abergavenny called ‘Conversations at the Chapel.’
Upstairs at The Chapel will host a series of discussions with leading writers, thinkers and artists, designed to bring vibrant and stimulating debate to town.
This forum for ideas will have an intellectual ambition is be both national and international reach, said Alastair Laurence, organiser.
He added that everything will be of interest and inquiry: history, science, biography, philosophy, politics, international affairs, economics, the novel, poetry, nature writing, music, art, satire, film, television, photography and theatre.
The Chapel has capacity of 130.
The aim of these ‘Conversations’ is to use the space to encourage a closeness between guest speakers and audience, so there is more opportunity for dialogue between the two.
The first “Conversation at The Chapel” is with Nature Writer and Bird Watcher Tim Dee, on Wednesday, November 14 at 7.30.
Tim’s first book was a memoir of his birdwatching life – “The Running Sky”. It was described by one critic as, “Thrillingly original.....as unexpected as it is brilliant.”
For his second publication – “Four Fields” – Dee travelled from the Fens in East Anglia to Zambia in Africa, from Montana in the American Mid-West to Chernobyl in the Ukraine.
His latest – “Land Fill” – has just been published. It is both a moving and a funny story of mostly Men, Gulls and rubbish dumps.
Tickets are £10.00 and are currently on sale at The Art Shop and The Chapel – 01873 736430/852690 or on line – artshopandchapel.co.uk.
The Chapel Bar and Bookshop will be open all evening.
