To mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, acclaimed Abergavenny poet Owen Sheers embarks on a journey that weaves the extraordinary story of Nye Bevan’s vision of free healthcare for all. The NHS:To Provide All People uncovers the intimate story of the NHS in British society today.

Filmed largely at Nevill Hall Hospital and based on scores of interviews with NHS workers - ranging from brain surgeons to cleaners - the programme charts the emotional and philosophical map of what defines the NHS and the personal experiences at the heart of the service. It recognises both its achievements and challenges.

“From first breath to last breath, the film poem reflects the joy, pain, triumph and loss that unites everyone in their experience of health and sickness, birth and death - regardless of race, gender or wealth,” said a BBC spokesman.

With a ‘stellar cast’ which includes Michael Sheen, Martin Freeman, Celia Imrie and Eve Myles to Provide All?People can be seen on BBC Wales on Thursday at 9pm
