Mohammad Asghar AM has called on the Welsh Government to England’s National Citizen Service to Wales.

National Citizen Service is open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England.

The scheme brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication.

Participants develop a social action project to deal with a local issue they’re passionate about, and spend 30 hours putting the project into action in their community.

Mr Asghar said:

“The National Citizen Service in England aims to prepare teenagers for work through team building activities and community projects run by the third sector.”

“A pilot scheme on introducing such a scheme in Wales began in 2014.”

“I believe it is time the Welsh Government recognised the success of this scheme in England and introduced a National Citizen Service in Wales.”
