Natalie Chiplin knows what makes a pub tick. After all, she was brought up in one of Abergavenny's most famous hostelries, The Great George, which was owned by her parents, Sonia and John, for nearly 30 years.
"I'm fully aware how important pubs are to the community" said Natalie. "My father and mother taught me that and the new King of Prussia will provide the best and most affordable service to the people of Abergavenny and Monmouthshire. All produce will be locally sourced, employment will be given to local people and, in musical events, opportunities will be offered to local artists."
So, having been brought up in the catering trade, was Natalie destined to run a pub and restaurant?
"I didn't think so", she said, "but I've absolutely loved working closely with my mother and father on completely renovating the King of Prussia and, during the process, I became aware there is nowhere I'd rather be. Perhaps it really is in my blood!"
Totally restoring the King of Prussia was a huge task, lovingly executed by a terrific team, and the process showed Natalie's famous drive, determination and enthusiasm to the full. Many Abergavenny residents will remember all of those attributes in action when, in 2011, Natalie organized 'Rewind and Relive' for Cancer Research Wales.
Natalie's inspiration was her amazing mother, Sonia, who had been diagnosed with an asbestos-induced cancer called mesothelioma. Thousands of people attended the event in Abergavenny Castle and raised an amazing £20,000.
"Rewind and Relive was a brilliant example of our community in action", said Natalie, "and I am determined the King of Prussia will make a significant contribution to the social and economic life of this wonderful and beautiful area.
"It's the reason I took on this exciting challenge" Natalie concluded, "and I'll do my very best to make sure all visitors to the new King of Prussia enjoy all we have to offer.
"That's exactly what my mother and father taught me!"
