WATCHING her four-year-old head through the school gates for the first time encouraged an Abergavenny parent to organise a Family fun night which turned into an amazing fundraiser.
Mum, Stacey White, chose Welsh medium education for daughter, Jessica Mae, despite being part of an English speaking family; however, as Jessica Mae had previously attended Meithrin she took it all in her stride.
Stacey explains, ‘After joining Ffrindiau Ysgol Gymraeg y Fenni as a volunteer, I put the idea forward of a ‘Getting to know you’ event for all of the foundation phase classes as a way to raise funds for the school and for people to get to know each other.
‘We came up with Noson Hwyl A sbri! (Family fun night). We invited all the children in Dosbarth Derbyn, Blwyddn 1&2 and their families, including older siblings.
‘The night was amazing, it drew in so much support from many families, and even those who couldn’t attend supported in other ways. It was fantastic to see so many new faces as well as lots of smiles and laughter’.
The night raised a grand total of £359.70. The school will be holding their annual Christmas Fayre on December 8th from 5.45-7.45pm. This event is open to everyone, it is not necessary to speak Welsh.
