PARENTS who fear for thie children's safety when walking to school have has backing from Monmouth MP David Davies.

Mr Davies is helping parents in Abergavenny campaigning for a pedestrian crossing on Hereford Road to make walking to school safer.

The MP met with the group to discuss their concerns at the potential dangers children face when crossing the road at busy periods in the morning and afternoon. Along with local councillor James George, Mr Davies joined pupils from Deri View Primary School and Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni on the walk to school. Afterwards he was presented with letters from the pupils calling on Monmouthshire County Council to put a new crossing in place.

"With three young children of my own, I appreciate how difficult it is to keep an eye on them when crossing busy roads," said Mr Davies.

"We all understand the health benefits of children walking to school and I hope the Council will look favourably at ways of making this easier in this area of Abergavenny."
