WITH the country facing the prospect of a hung parliament Conservative MP David Davies held on to his Monmouth seat, more than doubling his majority to beat Labour candiate Hamish Sandison by more than 10,400 votes - a 6.2 per cent swing from Labour to Conservative with a turn out of 72.4 per cent.
Claiming 22,446 votes a delighted Mr Davies vowed to continue to work for his constituency during his second term and thanked his tireless team of helpers for their efforts on the election trail.
Despite claiming earlier this week that he had been 'smeared as a Nazi' by his Labour opponent, Mr Davies said he would continue to fight for border controls in Britain where he had earlier said that 'people of all races and religions are fed up'.
Speaking at the count Mr Sandison thanked everyone who had supported his campaign and all those who ' believed in Labour and voted Labour' and congratulated Mr Davies, saying that ' democracy has spoken'."
Elsewhere, Labour reclaimed the Blaenau Gwent gaining a majority of 10,516 over People's Voice candidate, Dai Davies, who claimed the former Labour stronghold in 2005.
With a turnout of just 61 per cent, the win represented a swing of 29.2 per cent from People's Voice to Labour.
In Powys Liberal Democrat MP Roger Williams claimed a 46.2 per cent share of the votes beating Conservative candidate Suzy Davies into second place with a majority of 3,747, while in Torfaen Labour's Paul Murphy survived an 8.2 per cent swing from Labour to Conservative to beat Tory opponent Jonathan Burns into second place with a majority of 9,306.
