THE mother of Abergavenny Olympic cyclist Becky James has broken her pelvis after being knocked over while out cycling.
Christine James, who only took up the sport due to her worries about her daughters out training on their own, was knocked from her bike on Thursday morning and later posted a picture of herself on social media in a neck brace en route to hospital.
Gwent Police said it was called to a report of a collision between a female cyclist and a car at about 12.15pm
A spokesman said," A female cyclist was taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening."
Mr James later confirmed his wife had sustained a fractured pelvis and ’bruised lungs’ but had been very lucky after being struck from the side at speed.
Christine James only took up cycling she was worried about her daughters riding on their own and in 2013 was runner-up in the over-50s category in the National Mountain Bikes Championships.
Olympian Becky urged motorists to "think bike" after the incident.
