Fairfield United -5

Govilon AFC - 6

AFTER falling 5-1 behind in the first 30 minutes, Govilon staged a memorable fight back against Fairfield on Saturday.

Played at the Ravine ground, the home side scored after only four minutes when they bundled in the ball following a goal-mouth scramble.

Fairfield increased their lead after 15 minutes when Daniel Jenkins latched onto a long ball clearance and chased the ball to volley past stand-in Govilon goalkeeper Craig Norman.

Two minutes later Govilon pulled back a goal when Matthew Stevens passed the ball out of midfield to Jamie Laurent, whose good work along the bye-line set up Dean Morgan to side-foot home.

A minute later a nervy Govilon defence conceded a penalty which Langford converted. Five minutes Govilon's misery was compounded as Fairfield hit five with a long-range effort.

A minute before half time Craig Thomas started Govilon's revival by nipping in ahead of the defence to beat the Fairfield goalkeeper.

After the break the keeper was again beaten when Matthew Stevens thumped the ball past him from a narrow angle.

Dean Morgan saw his previous fierce shot fly just over the bar, but it was his weaker effort on the 80 minute mark which reduced the deficit even further when the keeper allowed the ball to slip through his hands, and despite a desperate lunge could not prevent the ball trickling into the net.

Now only one goal behind Govilon piled forward and goal ace Dean Morgan brought them level on 82 minutes.

Sensing victory was now within their grasp Govilon kept up the pressure and it was Morgan again who fired them in front for the first time with five minutes remaining on the clock.

A series of fouls by second placed Fairfield eased the pressure on Govilon in the final five minutes as they ran out winners ahead of their nearest rivals, and maintained their top of the table position in Gwent County Division Two.

Govilon who have now amassed 47 goals in their opening ten fixtures, will entertain Sudbrook - their promotion rivals from last season - this Saturday (k.o.3.00pm).

Govilon are still searching for goalkeepers so any interested unattached keepers should contact Club Manager Steve Morgan on 07739542327.
