FOR Molly Brickley Clark and her friends, the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny has been a home from home for almost twenty years and back in June, the talented group of performers took to the stage to show their affection for the cash-stricken venue with a fundraising production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

With the hugely successful production gaining rave reviews from its sellout audiences, Molly and some of her team were back on stage last week to hand over a cheque for more than £2,000 to Liz Davies, the chairman of A4B the voluntary group which represents the community users of the theatre and works to raise funds to be used at the theatre.

Molly explained, “We had heard that the Borough Theatre was facing cash crisis and decided that we wanted to do something to help. I’ve been performing here since I was a toddler and love the place and have been really upset to see it not looking its best. A few of us are going off to university this year so it will be the last time we’ll be on stage at the Borough for a while and we wanted to do something which could make a difference.

A delighted Liz accepted the cheque on behalf of the committee and assured Molly and the cast that the money would be put to very good use at the theatre.

“Molly had a few problems booking the theatre initially because it was felt that she wasn’t old enough to stage a production like this and might have had problems paying the bills, but thankfully Abergavenny?Pantomime Company stood in and helped her with that and the end result is this amazing donation to A4B.

“It’s a donation that is particularly welcome at the moment because there is so much to do at the theatre, which is in the process of being returned to the control of Monmouthshire County Council by the charitable trust which has run it for the past three years or so.”

‘We’ll definitely be putting it to good use - we are in the middle of buying some vital new technical equipment for the theatre so this money will certainly make a big difference to everyone who performs at the theatre as well as audiences,” said Liz.

“We can’t thank Molly and all of her cast enough for their generosity - staging a production like this is a huge undertaking and to do it all for the benefit of the theatre shows just how much affection the Borough is held in by those who perform here. The whole committee is grateful and wishes Molly and all those heading off to university, the very best of luck for the future.
