BEING one of the lucky few chosen to take part in Miss Wales means you have to raise funds for the events official charity.

Danielle Phillips (pictured below), of Abergavenny, was successful in the first round on the heats and was voted through to be one of 65 and will be taking part in the Miss Wales competition next week in Cardiff.

Now Danielle is avidly raising funds for The Joshua Foundation, a charity which provides holidays and experiences for children diagnosed with cancer and their families.

Local businesses have shown their support to Danielle as 12 agreed to strip off and be photographed for a nude calendar which has so far raised £900.

Danielle said, "I decided to do a calendar because it is more unique than raising money by doing a sponsored walk, also it is community based as local independent businesses agreed to take part."

Businesses including, Feodora Hair and Beauty Studio, Harry's and For the Love of Cake were all photographed by Danielle's dad with just a few choice items placed strategically to cover their modesty.

Danielle laughed, "They were all enthusiastic and I would like to thank them all for doing it."

Once the competition is over, the remaining money raised from the sale of the calendars will go to the special care baby unit at Nevill Hall Hospital.

Calendars, priced £5 are available from all the businesses in Abergavenny which took part in the fundraising drive.
