IF work on the Brewery Yard scheme is not completed within the anticipated 12 months the site will be out on hold for the 2009 Food Festival, cabinet members were told.
At last week's Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) cabinet meeting members were given an update on the scheme by cabinet member for regeneration and deputy leader, councillor Bob Greenland.
Construction of the regeneration scheme is due to start on October 6, councillor Greenland told members, "This is just to bring members up to date with the scheme and to seek combined approval to move forward with offering a contract to the successful tender. It's hoped that work will begin next month and will take around 12 months. It may be that it extends beyond September next year but the builders will be asked to vacate the site when it comes to the Food Festival."
The Project Board approved a scoring matrix that will assess tenders on 60 percent cost and 40 percent quality split.
MCC Leader, councillor Peter Fox said, "We welcome this, it is much wanted by the wider community of Abergavenny. I look forward to it making hasty progress."
