MARDY weightlifter Jonathan Davies recently powered his way to the crown of Welsh bench press champion 2011 to retain the title he won in 2010.

Competing in Swansea, the 40-year-old power-lifter with a body weight of 74k won the cup after lifting a massive 120k.

After an enforced two year leave of absence from the sport due to shoulder problems which required operations, Davies has hit a purple patch by making a storming comeback and winning his last two contests in the over 40 category.

As a result of his recent success, the power-lifter has now qualified for the British championships, which he previously won in 2003.

Davies trains once a week at Cwm, coached by former champion Stewart James who said, "Jonathan has shown a lot of fighting spirit to bounce back to full fitness and strength and he has a good chance of winning the British title again when he travels to Lancashire this July."
