MARDY Football Club members are hoping to raise money for Women’s Aid this year for its annual Christmas Charity Appeal.

Mardy Football Club will be restarting its annual Christmas Charity scheme whereby players’ contributions are collected in the run up to Christmas and donated to a worthy cause.

The Club has previously donated to Abergavenny Foodbank and last year chose the Salvation Army.

During the past year there have been instances of shocking violence against women and Club Official Clive Harry said “As an all male football club we have been appalled by these atrocities and we think it is entirely appropriate that we should support Cyfannol Women’s Aid this year for the work they carry out supporting women who have suffered from domestic violence.”

Speaking on behalf of Cyfannol in Monmouthshire, Rachael King said: “We are extremely grateful that Mardy Football Club have reached out to us to offer their support in the run up to Christmas.

‘‘This time of year can be so difficult for women and children who are rebuilding their lives after abuse.

‘‘This fundraising support will help us to make Christmas as special as possible for all the individuals and families we support, whilst potentially also contributing towards essential costs such as transport to refuge, emergency overnight accommodation, as well as activities for children.”

Cyfannol Women’s Aid supports individuals and families across Gwent at the most challenging times of their lives.

In the past year, they’ve helped more than 3000 people to access support, find safety and rebuild their lives after abuse.

Their mission is to empower women and children to flourish in a life free from domestic abuse and sexual violence.
