ANONYMOUS, whose letter was published in last week's
Chronicle has my sympathy. I totally agree with his
sentiments why should the local authority pick up the dog
mess.
Unfortunately, there are some dog owners who do not
care their dog is fouling the meadows or the streets of the
town. As one of the councillors with an overall
responsibility for Abergavenny and in my case for Grofield
Ward in particular we are constantly requested to do
something about dog mess.
Our experience which unfortunately comes at a cost for
the council tax payer is to provide dog bins.
There are many genuine dog owners who behave in a very
responsible way, pick up the mess and take it home for
disposal. The dog bins will be a real benefit to them, so I
appeal to all those who ignore the rules of decent
behaviour to make use of the bins when they are
introduced in the near future.
