ABERGAVENNY Community Centre celebrated the installation of WiFi throughout its premises at the former Park Street Infants School on Friday, October 27th thanks to a grant of £5,000 from the Big Lottery Awards For All scheme.

Mayor of Abergavenny, Councillor David Simcock and Monmouth MP, David Davies were among the guests at the celebration which coincided with the Centre’s regular coffee morning.

Young people were on hand to pass on their social media skills and show some of the older regulars how they can benefit from the new equipment.

Centre manager, Marion Pearse, stated, “We are delighted that our Big Lottery application was successful and appreciate the contribution of local players of the lottery.

“This grant has enabled us to continue modernising the building and will enable a range of groups to access the internet for educational, leisure and job searches.

“We are now looking forward to providing facilities for organisations such as Job Centre Plus and Monmouthshire Housing Association for their Pathways to Work scheme as well as for comprehensive school students needing somewhere to do homework and for meetings and seminars where internet access is essential. The system has been designed with a high level of security.”
