LOST holidaymakers have said a big thank you to a Good Samaritan in Abergavenny who showed them to the door of their tricky-to-find accommodation.
Kevin and Margaret Hyland from Widnes in Cheshire were left scratching their heads when a road diversion sent them into a spin in finding their holiday location.
The disorientated pair stopped in the town to ask two men if they could direct them to Riverside Barn in Gilwern.
They could not have been more pleasantly surprised by the helpful response they received.
One of the men said he would quickly fetch his car and lead them to the doorstep of their holiday hideaway.
A grateful Kevin said from the family home this week, “It was such a kind thing to do. He went out of his way to help strangers.”
He and Margaret were anxious to establish the identity of the mystery guide who cured them of their frustration with his tour guide treat.
Unfortunately they did not catch his name. All they know is that he drove a white Fiesta van.
“He had parked his vehicle away from the point where we met him. So he went out of his way just to help us,” revealed Kevin, 65.
Turning a bad time into a good one put them in just the right frame of mind to have a memorable holiday.
“We had a lovely time. The weather was good. The town was nice, the scenery terrific and the people were extremely friendly,” he said this week after his return home.
It was the couple’s first holiday in the area - and they mean to come again. Preferably without getting lost.
