Residents are feeling totally let down by those responsible for the Heads of the Valley dualing project, Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay has been told.

Speaking after meeting Councillor Jane Pratt and local residents at Gilwern Community Centre last Friday, Mr Ramsay said,  "Residents think the project will be great when finished but in the meantime Costain doesn’t seem to be listening to their concerns.

"Residents claim that traffic closures are not meeting minimum statutory guidance and are causing chaos, with lost motorists knocking on doors in the middle of night.

"Liaison meetings are infrequent and inadequate and the disruption being caused seems chaotic, with multiple changes being made to the original design without proper consultation

"They say it seems like a design and build rather than a properly planned process.

"Residents are anxious to know the current end date and why a flyover at Gilwern hasn’t been opened to ease local congestion. There are rumours that this is related to unresolved problems with a major water main which are yet to be sorted.

Promising to raise residents’ concerns with the Welsh Government’s secretary for infrastructure Ken Skates, Mr Ramsay said, "It is clear that local residents feel there has been a total breakdown in communication with the contractor and that their concerns are being ignored.

"There is a great deal of local support in principle for the road scheme, but there appears to be major slippage where delivery is concerned.  It is time to get this project back on track"
