If you go down to the woods today…you could surprise your family and friends by learning an entirely new skill.
The Woodland Group, part of the Crucorney Environmental Group, has a host of craft days on offer over the coming months.
The courses will be held at Court Wood (in the grounds of Llanvihangel Court, Llanvihangel Crucorney) in 11 acres of mixed hardwood woodland, which provides a regular supply of high quality firewood which is sold to locals as well as given to members in exchange for volunteer hours.
This beautiful area is now providing an inspiring natural setting for many events including green wood-working, nature walks, birdwatching, charcoal-burning and beekeeping.
The courses available include traditional spoon carving, bowl carving and hurdle making and anything you make during the day is yours to take home.
Andrea Jackman, Secretary for the Woodland Group said the rural craft days represented a small part of the group’s commitment, as the local environmental group, to keeping people working locally, as well as making use of the small woodlands for the purpose of craft creation and firewood supplies.
“We’re manned entirely by volunteers and any profit goes back directly back into the community,” she said. “We also have an educational arm named the ’Woodlanders’ which aims to bring families and children outdoors again, learning more about nature, local wildlife and outdoor fun.
“We would love new members to join our various groups. It’s a great way to meet people, to learn some new skills, burn a few calories and put something back into the community, whilst at the same time, enjoying the beautiful environment which surrounds us.”
