AN Abergavenny mother of three has had her head shaved and raised almost £600 to be divided between two charities.

Kelly Carter said, "I decided to raise money for two very special charities that are close to my heart, anyone that knows me will know my hair is my life, I love trying out new styles and colours and will attempt anything, however this is the first time ever I have plucked up enough courage to go bald for charity!!!

"Becky Bevan of Twilights of Abergavenny is my lovely hairdresser who did the deed and I thank her for giving up her time in to support me in my latest hair adventure.

"My chosen charities are: Zoe's Gift set up by Janet Comperat to help lift the effects that depression can bring onto people. Janet has worked hard helping others for as long as I can remember even though she battles on with her own illness.

" She is an inspiration to those that know her and knows as well as any of us that the majority of people will suffer depression at one point of their lives, it is nothing to be ashamed about. Janet's aim is to help those people suffering through the tough times and look forward to a brighter future."

She said, "The other charity is the Bobi-Phiel Memorial Fund set up by Myscha Dene and Damien Parry in memory of their beautiful daughter born asleep at 35 weeks. Myscha and Damien have dedicated so much time to this worthwhile charity. They aim to raise awareness of infant loss by supporting mums-to-be by promoting the importance of antenatal care, and offering support, help and advice to parents that have suffered loss."

The head shave took place in High Street, Abergavenny where a big crowd gathered to cheer on  Kelly, including Myscha and members of her family, and money was collected at the time. The rest of the money was raised through a raffle held at Twilights salon.

Kelly is a mature student who has just finished her work placement at Deri View Primary School, Abergavenny.

She said at the time she would wear a wig for her sister's 40th birthday party and other important public events but she has decided to be brave and has gone to all functions proudly showing off her bald head and has won many admiring looks.
