Usk started the game with several players carrying injuries but John Green soon gave them the lead with a penalty.
Emlyn Jones then stretched his legs for the first of his trademark tries when he ran in from near the halfway line.
Chris Howells increased his team's advantage when his foraging bore fruit for the second Usk try. Just before halftime John Green kicked a penalty to give Usk a 16-6 lead.
Early in the second half Pontllanfraith reduced the deficit with their third penalty.
Usk then went into the ascendancy with a second try from Emlyn Jones which John Green converted and followed with a penalty.
In the face of this Pontllanfraith completely lost their discipline and had two players yellow carded.
Emlyn Jones quickly recovered from a very late tackle to run in his third try of the afternoon from the halfway line with John Green again converting.
Usk rounded off a solid performance when Wayne Carvill was stopped just short of the line but Rob Siddons was on hand to go over for the try, completing a fine 38-9 victory.
