Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay has renewed calls to speed-up resurfacing of the A40 between Raglan and Abergavenny, and end residents’ frustrations with noisy traffic.
A petition was presented to the Welsh Assembly six weeks ago by Mr Ramsay and Councillor Sara Jones, which called for the work to be prioritised.
The proposal aims to replace the road surface with ‘whisper tarmac’ and reduce the noise of traffic - a consistent complaint from residents living near the bust trunk road.
The Assembly’s Petitions Committee is due to meet on September 13 to discuss the campaign borne out of local residents’ frustrations.
Speaking last week, Mr Ramsay said, “I have been campaigning alongside local residents for over eight years for the concrete road to be resurfaced.
“Recently the Welsh Government advised that a fence would be erected to help reduce noise rather than proceeding with replacing the road surface.
“Understandably, constituents are very unhappy about this, and consider that as the concrete surface is nearing the end of its life it should be replaced with modern tarmac as originally planned.
“I agree with them, and as this is one of the last remaining stretches of concrete trunk road in Wales it’s about time resurfacing was carried out.”
