A sailing club in hoping to welcome new members once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

A spokesperson for Llangorse club said: ‘‘As we all excitingly plan for our long awaited release from lockdown, free from restrictions, and imagine what outdoor activities will be like again, did you know that right in the heart of this area there is a beautiful 480 acre lake which hosts a very friendly and active sailing club?

‘‘Sailing can be literally enjoyed around the corner in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.’’

Llangorse Sailing Club, located next to the village of Llangorse, is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association as a Training Centre with the club providing, for very reasonable outlay, an assortment of sailing courses for beginners and onwards.

The club has its own training dinghy fleet, with additionally a number of brand new 14 foot long Comet dinghies, recently acquired with the generous support grant from Sports Wales.

The Comets are both fun to sail, stable and roomy enough for enthusiastic beginners and the instructor sitting alongside.

Training Principal Lorina Walden explained the enjoyment and value of learning the sport: “Sailing gets one into the fresh air, on the water and close to nature as well as being tremendous fun.

‘‘Especially true for young people learning to sail builds confidence and develops important life skills; independence, communication, teamwork and resilience”.

The Club itself has great resources, including a splendidly kitted out Club house, which was supported by the Sports Lottery, additionally local council support has also helped out along with the ongoing investment in time and work done by the members who run the club on an entirely voluntary basis.

The sailing season usually starts around April and goes on well into the late Autumn months.

Activity Saturdays run through the summer months with regular racing on Sundays making it a great opportunity for those new to sailing and racing. Members enjoy casual sailing at other times as the club is open seven days a week.
