An investigation has been launched after three teenagers were struck after overhead cables fell on to the platform at Abergavenny station.

After being ripped from their fittings, the cables came crashing down, damaging station buildings and striking three young passengers awaiting a train, who were left with minor injuries.

It was reported that the fixtures were caught by the roof of a fast-moving carriage travelling from Holyhead, on July 28.

An investigation into the incident has been launched by the UK government.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) confirmed that it will look into event, paying particularly scrutiny to Network Rail procedures.

A spokesman said, "We will publish our findings, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of our investigation.”
