Goytre - 0
Llantwit Fardre - 3
GOYTRE were undone by six bookings, one sending-off, and no goals on Saturday, as a table-topping Llantwit Fardre cleared up at Plough Road.
"It was almost 90 minutes of disappointment with few expectations," revealed club chairman Paul Greenhalgh after the match. "We were second best throughout the first half, and our indiscipline was consistently punished by the referee. The only saving grace was that our keeper Gareth Williams made a few cracking saves to keep us in the match during the first period."
The visitors opened the scoring after only ten minutes and scored another just before the stroke of half-time.
Into the second period and Goytre upped the ante and played some better football.
However, the nearest they got to clawing their way back into the game, was when Andy Walsh laid on a ball for SImon Ritter whose shot was just smothered by the Llantwit keeper.
Content to protect their 2-0 lead, and let Goytre come forward, Llantwit were always going to be dangerous on the break.
With ten minutes remaining, Llantwit launched their counter, and were rewarded with a penalty for their efforts as the ref deemed that Kevin Wallace had pulled a player down in his attempts to win the ball.
3-0 and the game was tucked-up and sleeping soundly in Llantwit's favour. Wallace did have an opportunity to make amends by nearly grabbing a consolation goal for his team in the dying embers of the match, but unfortunately, despite delivering a tremendous shot from way out, his strike just struck the crossbar.
Greenhalgh told the Chronicle, "In retrospect I think all our chances disappeared down the drain when our captain Craig Jollife was sent off 25 minutes from time with his second yellow card.
"He got the additional carding because he spent too much time querying the ref about why he received the first. At the end of the day like it or not, you've got to play to the referees or your going to get punished.
"From then on in we were playing a top-of-the-table side with ten men, a two goal deficit, and only twenty minutes on the clock - the ask was too much."
Next Saturday Goytre will face Troedyrhiw away as they continue their 2008/09 campaign in Welsh League Division Three.
