Neighbouring streets in Abergavenny are staging a street party on Sunday (June 18, 3pm-6pm) as part of the Great Get Together in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.

Residents of Holywell Crescent and Holywell Road East will gather on the green at the top of the crescent for children’s games and activities, music and singing, circle dancing and a quiz with a Father’s Day theme! There will also be awards for the oldest and youngest residents.

The organisers say that, while the event isn’t primarily intended as a fund-raiser, there will be stalls devoted to books, bric-a-brac, plants and homemade cakes, with donations going to Abergavenny Charity Seven Corners.

The nationwide Great Get Together has been suggested by Jo Cox’s family and friends as a positive way of marking the first anniversary of her death. It will see people in communities across the UK getting together to celebrate what they have in common.
