ABERGAVENNY'S Amy Smith and newly-selected Zara Rogers made the long trip recently to Bridlington, Yorkshire to represent the Welsh ladies B team in the World Championships. The team won all their group matches to qualify for the semi-finals where they beat Scotland 17-12. But they lost out in the final by 17-14 to France. Smith and Rogers both play for Labour Mix in the Abergavenny League, where they completed a second division league and cup double in the winter competition. They also play for the Welsh ladies pool tour, and also in the Abergavenny pool tour. Amy finished runner up on the main tour whilst Zara won the plate competition. Both girls are grateful to their sponsors, with Amy helped by Mark Smith Motor Services and Zara sponsored by Simon Pritchard Transport of Cwmbran. Both players are now looking forward to the European Champio-nships in October. Meanwhile, after the opening month in the Abergavenny and District Summer Pool League the Coach and Horses lead Division One after three victories in four matches. The team recently clinched a 5-4 home win over winter league champions Labour A. Labour Z are second, their latest victory by 8-1 over Navigation. Great Western A are third and Cambrian A fourth. In Division Two, Labour C are the only team with a 100 per cent record, their latest win by 5-4 at home against Cambrian B. Labour Mix are up to second after a 6-3 win over Nantyglo Rugby Club, King David are third and Belmont are in fourth place. Abergavenny Thursdays AFC lead Division Three after victories over Bridgend Govilon and Bryn B. Bailey are second after a 5-3 win over Lancaster Cobras. New league members Goytre Arms are third after an 8-1 win against Bryn B and New Labour are fourth.
