ABERGAVENNY Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society will be bringing their centenary year to a rousing climax with a celebration concert at the town's Borough Theatre in September and are inviting ?Chronicle readers to have their say in how the performance should end.

During the course of rehearsals members have been discussing their favourite musical showstoppers and have come up with a shortlist of five songs which could bring the show to a close and are now calling on local theatre goers to make the final decision.

"We think we've come up with four of the best musical numbers from the shows AAODS have produced through the years but we'd like to know what our audiences think," said musical director Sarah Fowler.

"The Centennial Serenade will feature a selection of some of the most memorable melodies from the past 100 years of AAODS ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan to Sondheim and performances from some of the societies best known singers and actors," she added.

"We're disappointed that we haven't been able to find a score for the society's first production, A Nautical Knot, but we have tracked down some of the early music which I'm sure audiences will love as much as we do."

Special guest at the performance will be West End star Oliver Thornton, who made his stage debut as a member of AAODS and appeared in countless shows as a member of the junior section of the society.

AAODS - A Centennial Serenade can be seen at the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny on Sunday, September 11 and tickets are available from the theatre box office on 01873 850805.

The four songs which have been chosen as potential closing numbers for the performance are: One Day More (Les Miserables), Comedy Tonight (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), You'll Never Walk Alone (Carousel) and There's No Business Like Show Business (Annie Get Your Gun).
