Local AM Nick Ramsay has written to the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Vaughan Gething AM, to highlight a problem with ‘My Health Online’.

The service enables patients in Wales to make GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and update their personal details.

Visually impaired users of the service, however, have reported to Mr Ramsay that they are unable to use the service since the security log in process has been enhanced.

Users are now required to identify objects on a picture provided on screen as part of the improved security introduced on the site, and those with impaired vision are unable to do so. As a result they have been unable to log in to their accounts.

“I am grateful to the constituents who have drawn this problem to my attention,” said Mr Ramsay.

“After raising the issue with the Welsh Government’s Health Secretary, I am pleased to be able to report that the NHS Wales Informatics Service is working with the supplier of the system to review the sign-in process so that the needs of visually impaired users are accommodated.

“I hope it won’t be too long before every service user who requires communication support has his or her needs met. With an increasingly elderly population having to use online services, it’s vital they are as user-friendly as possible for those with poor vision.”
