Cwmbran Town - 3
Goytre - 1
GOYTRE suffered their second league defeat this season when Cwmbran Town beat them 3-1.
Playing away on a day when the MacWhirter Welsh League fixture list was again decimated by inclement weather, the Plough Road team couldn't find their winning ways and the Crows flew in through the backdoor to set up nest in the Goytre goal.
Although still sitting pretty on top of Welsh League Division Three, the match was a bitter blow for Goytre in more ways than one, as they have lost their goalkeeper Gareth Williams for the next three games courtesy of a straight red card.
The incident which involved Williams losing his cool and lashing out at a Cwmbran player he was adjudged to have brought down in the penalty area, was described as a 'massive turning point' by assistant Goytre manager Steve Grey, in charge of a dugout which included former Wales star Nathan Blake.
Prior to the incident, Matthew Prosser had opened Goytre's account in the second minute with a header off a free kick from former Crow Chris Watkins.
In the wake of the red card, Cwmbran's Kristian Powell levelled affairs and Chris Watkins stepped in to the goalkeeper's shoes.
Capitalising on their numerical advantage, the Crows wasted no time in bagging two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second-half to win the game.
A gutted Grey explained, "We could have scored two or three by the time they equalised and to lose a goalkeeper and to have to replace him with such a quality player like Chris Watkins was absolutely devastating for us.
"Our players are truly gutted and rightly so. But one thing is for sure, we will bounce back from this set-back."
