Trinant AFC - 1
Govilon AFC - 2
GOVILON started slowly on their first ever visit to Trinant and fell behind to a Leon Coker strike after 15 minutes in what proved to be a very quiet first half.
Paul Williams' snap shot on an empty goal after Trinant's keeper was left stranded almost brought them level, except for a last ditch intervention by the home-side which forced Govilon to settle for a one goal deficit at half-time.
The half-time break saw the introduction of midfielder Graig Norman, and this along with manager Steve Morgan's half-time talk brought an immediate revival.
Richard McCarthy belted a free kick just wide on 50 minutes and Jamie Laurent was also wide two minutes later with a powerful shot on the turn.
The equaliser arrived 10 minutes into play when Jamie Wilkins shot in a long range effort which the keeper could only tip onto his crossbar, leaving Dean Morgan to head home the rebound.
By now in full flow and dominating the game, Govilon took the lead on the hour when the ball fell kindly to Richard McCarthy on the edge of the box, who wasted no time in rifling it home.
Matthew Prosser's enterprising lob from 30 metres out was just over the bar with 20 minutes remaining, and this signaled wave after wave of attacking play from Govilon as they bombarded the Trinant goal.
Despite strikes by Morgan, McCarthy, and Laurent, the score-line remained the same up until the final whistle.
And so ended yet another Govilon victory to keep them at the top of the Gwent County Division Two table.
