Lliswerry - 3

TABLE-topping Govilon tumbled to their second defeat of the season on Saturday against second-placed Lliswerry.

Govilon took the initial lead inside the first 30 seconds when Dean Morgan harried the Lliswerry defence as they dealt with a long ball, and overcame his marker to lob goal-keeper Ross Davies.

Three minutes later, Lliswerry hit back and drew level when a defensive blunder allowed them to score from close range.

Although both sides had chances for the remainder of the half, the score remained 1-1 going into the interval.

In the second-half and Lliswerry edged ahead after 50 minutes when Craig Williams stepped up to take a free kick, and although his thunderbolt shot was parried by Govilon keeper Morrison, it was not enough to prevent the ball flying into the net.

Five minutes later Govilon drew level when Morgan took advantage of a slip by a Lliswerry defender to notch his second goal.

The goal seemed to put a little wind in the sails of Govilon who surged forward and created two attempts which Lliswerry were grateful to see cleared off their goal-line.

The deciding goal of the game came with 15 minutes remaining when Govilon's defensive ranks failed to clear the ball, leaving Lliswerry's Tony Shier to turn in the box and fire home.

Next Saturday Govilon will aim to make a return to winning ways in Gwent County Division Two when they entertain bottom placed Lucas Cwmbran (k.o 2.00pm).
