Cefn Fforest - 1
Govilon - 6
GOVILON completed a swift double over Cefn Fforest in successive Saturdays following their
1-6 romp at the Welfare Ground.
But it was Cefn Fforest who opened the scoring after five minutes when Luke Bowen latched onto a rebound to fire past Anthony Moriarty.
Govilon equalised through Richard McCarthy who had an easy chance when a corner kick fell to him and he scored unopposed.
Rhys Whiteman almost gave Govilon the lead when he headed just wide from another corner, but it was Jamie Laurent who put them in front when his power strike from 30 yards fizzed past French in the Cefn goal.
McCarthy grabbed his second of the match ten minutes into the second half powering home an unstoppable shot from a free kick, and Dean Morgan almost extended their lead when he drew a fine save from French on the hour.
Corner kicks troubled Cefn Fforest throughout and it was no surprise when Jamie Wilkins stole in on a Robert Frost corner to increase Govilon's lead.
Matthew Ham launched a right flank attack and set up Dean Morgan to notch goal number five for Govilon, before more corner kick woe struck Cefn when Wilkins undid them again heading home a Robert Frost kick as Govilon rounded off the half dozen.
Elsewhere in Gwent County Division One the Blaenavon Blues were dealt another defeat when Spencer Youth and Boys put the boot in 4-2 and fellow league side Clydach Wasps were beaten 5-1 by North Wales-based Welsh Alliance outfit Glan Conwy in the final of the FAW Trophy at Aberystwyth.
in Division Three the Abergavenny Thursdays had a rough time of it when they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fleur-De-Lys Welfare
Meanwhile in Welsh League Division Three, Goyte drew a blank after their match against Cwmamman United ended in a 0-0 draw.
However in midweek they stormed to a well-earned 0-2 away win over a second-placed Aberbargoed Buds team with goals from Martin Houston and Wayne Savage.
Goytre Chairman Paul Greenhalgh told the Chronicle, "What was really pleasing about the win over the Buds is we travelled their without our two suspended central midfielders and still dominated the game. It's a hard place to go and get a win and we're well pleased with the result."
With nine games remaining and eight of them at Plough Road, Goytre are still very much in the mix to make their mark before the season is out, and it all begins again this Saturday when they face Pentwyn Dynamos at home.
