Govilon - 4

Lliswerry - 0

GOVILON exerted early pressure on Lliswerry in their midweek match forcing goal-keeper Ross Davies into action three times in the opening ten minutes.

The best of the early action came when Jamie Laurent set up Dean Morgan who shot over the bar.

Despite further Govilon pressure including a penalty award which was brilliantly saved by Davies, and a shot from Lliswerry's Tony Shier which was just wide the score-line remained 0-0 at half time.

The game sparked into life on the hour and heralded a devastating seven minutes for Lliswerry when Govilon's Richard McCarthy lobbed the ball over Davies for a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later McCarthy struck again when he met Dean Morgan's cross from the right to fire home, and five minutes later they romped to a 3-0 lead when Dean Morgan's charge into the box was rewarded with a goal from close range despite the efforts of Lliswerry's defence. Lliswerry conceded another penalty with 20 minutes remaining and this time McCarthy made no mistake powering the ball into the back of the net despite Davies getting a hand to the shot.

Govilon could have added to their score when Rhys Whiteman's header grazed the bar from a set piece, and Danny Marfell's shot was well saved by Davies with the help of the post as Govilon disposed of their second place rivals and extended their lead at the top of Gwent County Division Two to three points.

Govilon's are next at home on September 20 when they meet Trethomas Bluebirds (3.00pm).
