PLANS to build a small toilet block for customers at Llanfoist Wharf have been given the go ahead.
The scheme by Beacon Park Boats was given the green light by members of the Monmouthshire county planning committee last week, despite objections from Llanfoist community council and neighbours at South Lodge and Glenusk.
The application is to relocate the current customer toilet from the applicant's home to a more appropriate siting for customers.
Llanfoist Community Council said the application site is situated on a greenfield site on the lower slope of the canal and that all otherfacilities are on the other side of the canal. They also note that the site is situated away from the car park. There are already toilets on board most boats and in the event of early arrival it has been suggested that customers could use toilet facilities in the nearby Waitrose Supermarket.
One letter of objection has been received from the occupiers of South Lodge, Merthyr Road, Llanfoist. They are concerned about the siting of the toilet facility and question the need for one at all as there are facilities on board most boats and an existing toilet at the boat house.
A subsequent communication has been received from the occupier of Glenusk, suggesting that the siting of the building is wholly inappropriate and would lead to both noise and light pollution and a potential haven for vandalism.
